Thoughts on Minx (some bitterness)
One thing I like about Minx is that they have two titles with Korean American protaganists.
That's two more then any books/comic books/popular T.V. shows/movies/you get the point had when I was a kid. And they're actually drawn to look Asian, more then I could say for friggin' Jubilee (I loved the X-Men cartoon when I was a tween) who was supposedly full blooded Chinese but had goddamn blue eyes. It was like there was something wrong with brown eyes :(
Thoughts on the Minx titles:
The Plain Janes: I thought some of the characters were cliche/two demionsinal. There's a Jane who's sporty, into drama, cliched nerd, and that mainly what makes their characters. There's also a mean, snobby cheerleader (cliche!) But I did like the fact that it protrays art as a wonderful means of expression.
Not a terrible read, but ultimately forgettable in my view.
Re-Gifters: Also somewhat cliche, ("bad boy" actually turns out to be not so bad)
I like the fact that the protagnist kicks the ass of a crush (who's trying to manipulate her) in a martial arts compitition instead of afalling for his manipulations and regretting it.
There's also a Korean/Hispanic romance, which is of personal interest to me because a Korean/Hispanic romance resulted in my neice and nephew.
Clubbing: turns very, very, cracktastic at the end. That's all I can say about it.
As Good As Lilly:
My personal favorite of all the Minx titles.
Grace is visited by her 8 year old self, 29 year old self, and 70 year old self on her 18th birthday. Craziness ensures.
Grace's 8 year self remains me of my 8 year self: pudgy, aware and insecure of it, yet can't resist the sweets.
The title only has a tiny bit to do with the actual story.
Also the fact that the father like SPAM (in fact he likes SPAM in general) in his kimchee soup amuses me for a reason I can't quite point my finger on.

totally agree on plainjanes. regifters was very cute even if the boy ends up being good the story was cute and not as forgetable as plain janes. clubbing has a horribly ugly cover, the worst proffesional comics cover i've seen in ages, it looks like bad photoshopping. i couldn't bring myself to spend money on it. good as lily looks awesome i really want to read that one.
